The live platform behind the First Mutual Health Winter Challenge.

OVERVIEW
The First Mutual Health Winter Challenge is a one-day, single-venue corporate sports event: 48 teams, 8 game zones, referees, rotations, and a leaderboard the whole venue watches. Commissioned by the event's organisers, we built the platform that ran it, live scoring, rotation, qualification, and results, so the day was run from a single console and everyone saw the standings update in real time.
THE CHALLENGE
A one-day event leaves no room for error. Forty-eight teams rotate through eight game zones on a synchronised schedule, referees submit results from the field, and the leaderboard has to stay correct and live as hundreds of results land in a few hours. Do it on spreadsheets and the day falls apart.
WHAT WE BUILT
- An operations console: load teams, generate and lock groups, assign referees to zones, schedule rounds
- A mobile-first referee app (PWA) for submitting results from the field, zone by zone
- A public full-screen display showing the live leaderboard to the whole venue
- Real-time scoring, rotation, qualification, and audit, updating everywhere the moment a result lands
HOW WE BUILT IT
We built it as a real-time system from the ground up: a backend that pushes every result to every screen the moment it lands, and three focused apps (an operations console, a referee app, and a public display) sharing one design system and one contract. Everything is role-gated, so referees only see scoring and organisers run the whole event.
